Marketing by email can be an extremely profitable endeavour. Combining it with other marketing efforts, you can stay in front of your customer, to educate them on your benefits, and bring them deeper into your sales funnel where they will spend more money with you.

However, marketing by email is not always a simple task to undertake. If you’re going to be email marketing, you’re going to face obstacles from the spam filters and from the irrational person, you occasionally run into, who signs up for you list and then wants to ask why you’re sending them emails. In my opinion, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

1. First of all, marketing by email can be all hands off. Simply load in your messages in advance, and set them to be sent out at a certain time. You can nearly automate every email marketing function, so once you set the system up once and get it going, you can just let it work its magic.

2. The other significant benefit is that it is extremely cost effective. Imagine the expense if you had to send those messages through regular mail!

Naturally, there are some downsides you have to be aware of.

1. There is a bit of a learning curve involved with the software that you’ll have to go through. And until you get through this learning curve, you’re not likely to be efficient with email marketing.

2. And the other downside is that, no matter how ethical you are and no matter if you follow the rules, some idiot is going to complain. Can you handle these complaints? If not, then get out of business ASAP, right?!

Finally, if you are going to be marketing by email, do yourself a tremendous favor and pick the right software service from the get-go. It’s hard to switch services after you’ve already built up your list, because you’d have to get everyone on your old list to sign up for your new list. So take the time in the beginning to really do an in-depth study of the different options for marketing by email.
